Background:
Nepal is a country where numbers of people are still under the poverty line. Among them the condition of people who are rusticating is rather pathetic. As a result, Nepalese society consists of inequality gender disparity, racism, violence of human rights, untouchability and deprivation. Women are not prior to their education and rights. Most people are living their slummy life without education, job, health facilities and environmental fulfillment. To sum up, we can say that the overall scenario of Nepal in conceivable.
Goal:
SODECS is initiated to build up a sound social life where people themselves are aware for creating a healthy and prosperous community to eliminate the present social evils of Nepalese society. The main aim of SODECS is to work with the vulnerable and under-privileged groups who are despite of their potentials, poor, downtrodden and incapable in order to help them led a dignified life as others do in their society. Besides these, it also aims at empowering women and preserving their rights to uplift them which include their educational and medical rights as well.
Objectives:
The objectives of SODECS are as follows:
- The main aim of SODECS is to help and make more just, prosperous and caring society.
- To identify and investigate into the causes of the problems of the target groups.
- By educating the target groups on the causes of the problems, to jointly try to find out solution to their problems.
- To help increase the target groups’ accessibility to local resources and their use.
- To do advocacy for the formulation by the policy makers of policies in favor of the vulnerable and under-privileged groups.
- To help increase employment opportunities by upgrading skills of local people.
- To help utilize the experience and skills of the senior people in the communities and transfer their skills and knowledge to the minors.
- To work for protection and preservation of forest, environment, medicinal plants (herbs), forest food, production and development crafts based industries
- To support for home-net production and help for exporting quality standards.
- To work for the preservation of local culture by a way of improving over the existing practices.
- To do research and study on different aspects of the communities and share the good aspects of the findings with them for social development.
- SODECS is to work with communities (which are, despite of their potentials, are deprived and weak) in order to help them lead a dignified life as others do in their society.
